Vintage silver earrings set with marcasite in a swirl design, centered by a fresh water pearl, with a pin and push fitting.
Marcasite is crystallised iron pyrites, an iron sulphide mineral used extensively in jewellery from the 18th century onwards, especially in France.
Marcasite is generally a rose cut stone pave set in silver to enhance its brilliance and was used in less expensive pieces as a substitute for diamonds.
Neat and chic these earrings can be worn any time of day or evening.
