What is a Princess Cut?

  1. The technical name is 'square modified brilliant'.
  2. The name dates back to 1961 when Ardap Nagy the founder of the Diamond Polishing Works in London created a version of the princess cut known as the profile cut.
  3. The princess cut as it exists today was created by Betazel Ambar and Israel Itzkowitz in 1980.
  4. The cut has a square or rectangular shape when viewed from above, and from the side is similar to that of an inverted pyramid with four beveled sides.
  5. The princess cut diamond was popular in the 80s and 90s, as it was often used as the main diamond in engagement rings.
